Monday was worse than usual. An argument with the site manager didn't help any, along with a near-accident with a nail gun—not on his part, with an eager new apprentice who almost ended his career and his ability to walk. Karl had been in the right place at the right time to save the kid from himself.

And yet he still couldn't stop thinking about Jeni.

On the drive home, Karl contemplating chucking his cards into the garbage and going to The Thirsty Meeple for their board game night, easing back into his old groove. To hell with the game, to hell with waiting.

But...

Ten thousand dollars.

His hands were sore from slamming them on the steering wheel—or any solid surface nearby, each and every time he thought about Jeni and the Grand Showdown.

Tuesday...

Tuesday was Tuesday. Just another day. Go to work, stop the new guy from killing himself or someone else, do his job and go home. Shower, change, and head for the pub.

Just another day.

"Just another day," Karl repeated as he drove, his cards sitting beside him in the truck.

The Thirsty Meeple appeared to be the same as it always was, but there was something different, something...

He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts.

Let's go see how Jeni's doing.

Then collect my own wins on the way to that ten thousand.
